Tour Description

A height of the summer, one of the best times to visit the country occurs the most famous festival of three games of a man-the Naadam Festival. It is celebrated on July 11-13 annually across the country with every town and village holding contests in traditional wrestling, archery and horse racing. The official opening ceremony of Naadam in Ulaanbaatar is spectacular. This tour offers attending the official ceremony of Naadam in Ulaanbaatar and travel to the most amazing landscape Gobi Desert unlike Sahara plus hiking in Ice Valley, exploring the dinosaur site, climbing to the high sand dune. Also you will meet kindest Mongolian people in Gobi and appreciate their hospitality. By contrast, summer time temperatures in the Gobi desert climb as high as 104° F (40° C) and generally dry. Riding Bactrian two humped camel is another experience.

July 11. Mongol Naadam

Attend opening ceremony of the Naadam Festival plus a Folk concert in the evening. The highlight of the Mongolian Festival dates back several centuries and takes place each year July 11-13. Originally a test of a nomad’s aptitude, it requires strength, stamina, accurate marksmanship and skillful horsemanship. Given the equine nature of nomadic life, much importance is placed on the horse races. Drawing herdsman from hundreds of miles around, races are staged on the vast steppes covering distances of up to 20 miles. We highly recommend booking early for our Naadam Festival departure.

July 12. Rock climbing in Middle Gobi (220km)

After earle breakfast we will drive to Middle Gobi. Middle Gobi is semi-arid steppe where you may encounter medical herbs, rare animals such as wild sheep, ibex, antelope, black tailed antelope, marmot, fox, lynx, wild cat, badger and birds include eagle, kite, swan and sand grouse. After few hours driving to the south of Ulaanbaatar, we will have lunch in mountainside called Zorgol Khairkhan which is granite rock formation, 1600m high above sea level and one of the beautiful mountains in the Gobi. We will arrive in Baga Gazriin Chuluu passing by small Lake Hairhan. Baga gazriin chuluu is one of the granite rock formations where large granite pinnacles and windings canyons. We will spend our first overnight staying with nomadic family living in the steppe zone and experience a bit taste of their nomadic lifestyle.

July 13. Limestone cliff Tsagaan suvarga (280km)

Tsagaan suvarga is an area of 30-m high white limestone formations and a beautiful part of the desert. We will drive to a set of eroded limestone cliffs, from where you have the fantastic view over the desert floor down below, which bore colors from white and yellow to pink and deep red. We will stay with nomadic family there.

July 14. Hiking in Ice Valley called Yolyn Am (280km)

Our today’s destination is Vulture Valley (Yoliin Am), valley in the middle of the Gobi Desert, with metres-thick ice for most of the year. We will have breath-taking cool air through hiking in the valley following the stream, leads to an ice-filled gorge about 2kms. In entrance we will visit the small museum of a collection of dinosaur eggs and bones, stuffed birds and snow leopard.

July 15. The longest singing sand dune Khongor (200km)

After breakfast, we will leave Vulture valley heading to Khongor Sand Dune. Empty steppe where lies many branches of road, mirage of the Gobi, the distances between Gers are a common views of very Southern Mongolia. We will have lunch on the way. Khongor sand dunes are some of the largest and most spectacular sand dunes in Mongolia. They are up to 300m high, 12 kms wide and about 180kms long. Gobi desert in Mongolia is unlike Sahara there are green grasslands, oasis and grazers. The climate here is extreme. Temperatures reach +40° C at highest in summer, and -40 in winter. Khongor sand dune is in Great Gobi National which contains the last remaining wild Bacterian (two-humped) camels, wild ass, and a small population of Gobi bears, the only desert-inhabiting bears.

July 16. Land of dinosaur Bayanzag (150km)

Today, our destination is Bayanzag known as Flamming cliff where first excavated in 1922, renowned worldwide for a number of dinosaur bones and eggs found. It is a classic desert of rock, red sands, scrub, sun and awesome emptiness. Gobi always amazes people with its emptiness and feeling midst of nowhere. We will ride the camel to discover the red cliff.

July 17. Secret of Ongi monastery (150km)

Today, we will drive to Ongiin khiid, the unique 17th century sole monastery at the heart of the desert. Formerly Ongi was one of the biggest Buddhist monasteries where around thousand lamas used to stay and learn from Buddhism. Unfortunately, the monastery was ruined during political repression 1937-1939.The ruin of the monastery signs spread of strong Buddhism into Mongolians under Chinese rule and political repression under socialist rule impacted by the Soviet Union in Mongolia. The vast majority of the more than 700 monasteries in Mongolia were also destroyed and around 25000 lamas killed during the political repression in Mongolia. We will hike exploring the ruin of the monastery which is located in east Shore of Ongi River.

July 18. Ruin of the ancient capital Karakorum and Erdenezuu monastery (300km)

Drive to Karakorum, the site of the 13th century Mongolian empire’s capital, founded by Chinggis Khan. However Karakorum served as the capital for only 40 years before Kublai khan moved to nowadays Beejin. Visit to the ruins and Erdenezuu Monastery, first and biggest Buddhist monastery of 16th century surrounded by 400m x 400m walls build from the ruin of the ancient capital.

July 19. Tsenkher Hot Springs (150km)

Today we will drive to the Tsenkher Hot Springs. Enjoy a natural hot bath at the ger camp.

July 20. Ogy Nuur Lake (240km)

Drive to Lake Ogy in Arkhangai province. Enjoy bird watching by the lakeshores and spend the night in the ger camp located on the shore of the Ogy Lake.

July 21. Ulaanbaatar (350km)

Breakfast at the camp. Drive to Ulaanbaatar and transfer to the hotel.

Four-wheel drive vehicles are used for the entire tour along off-roads. Tracks are only asphalt near the capital.



Stay with nomadic family to experience nomadic life through following their daily routine and becoming the member of family. Camel riding.



Mongolia traditional house (tent) called Ger is provided for the entire trip. Ger is equipped with bed. Ger camp is a small business for local people who build extra ger for tourists during the summer. Shower with hot water is available in some of them.

Nomadic family: Stay with some of the nomadic families or in extra ger.



There is not many varieties in Mongolian food but delicious. We will serve as much as Mongolian traditional food if you enjoy also European food. Khorkhog-Mongolian barbeque contains of pieces of meat, hot stones and vegetable will be our special dish. Vegetarian food is available. You will taste all types of dairy products.
