Khustain Nuruu
Outside UB, Khustai National Park is the site of a unique re-introduction site of last species of wild horse known as the Przewalskii’s horse. The national park covers 506 square km and it was established in 1992 to protect not only wild horse but also the reserve’s steppe and forest-steppe environment. Now it is a home to 400 wild horse and steppe gazelle, deer, boar, Pallas’s cats, wolves, lynx, marmot and some 223 species of birds.
Terelj National park
Terelj National park is well known by its incredible landscape with alpine scenery and fantastic rock formations of Khentii Mountain range. Rich in wildlife such as foxes, wolves, squirrels, brown bear, wolf, lynx, wolverine and sable, red deer, moose Siberian roe deer and musk deer. In 1993, the Gorkhi Terelj area was protected as a National Park. Popular sites including Ariyapala meditation center, Turtle rock and Gunjiin sum.
Gun Galuut Nature Reserve
Gun Galuut nature reserve has numerous lakes and rivers such as Ikh-Gun lake and Ayaga lake and Herlen river. The Nature reserve is a spot the wild sheep Argali, ibex and other wild animals including marmot, steppe fox, ground squirrel and white-naped crane. This is a convenient place for birdwatching. The Gun-Galuut Nature Reserve is protected in order to conserve threatened species in 2003.
