DAY 1: Arrive in Baga Gazryn Chuluu

This morning Travel Buddies tour guide and driver will pick you up from the hotel and head to the Middle Gobi. Surrender to this magical land today with the first taste of Mongolia’s fascinating landscape. Venturing into the Middle Gobi, a semi-arid steppe full of rare wildlife, head to Baga Gazriin Chuluu ; iconic granite formation. Upon arrival, visit ruin of Buddhist temple and hike in the park. Tonight be completely immersed in the Mongolian culture, enjoying a traditional meal and spending the night with a nomadic family in the steppe zone. DAY 2: Hiking in Yolyn Am

Leaving the Middle Gobi, we will drive to Yolyn Am in South Gobi. After a short drive from park entrance, we will get ready for 2 hours hike in the valley along a flowing stream. Good trekking shoes as well as walking sticks are recommended because further we go, narrower the valley becomes. In the middle of summer in July and August, there is no ice to see but you will definitely enjoy the hike with pleasant environment of many pikas and birds in the valley. Visit a small museum that displays a collection of dinosaur eggs, bones and exotic stuffed animals. Completing the activities, we get to the tourist Ger camp to settle and rest for the day. DAY 3: Wander Khongor sand dune

Time to drive across the Gobi desert; a vast open area with animals roaming around. The most spectacular and largest sand dune in western Gobi is awaiting us to explore. The dunes have curves which end in a sharp edge, making them look like ocean waves. See oasis and Gobi tree forest at the foot of the sand dunes to make our way to the sand dune with active climbing. We will ride camel from a nomad family nearby. Overnight in tourist Ger camp (2 people share Yurt with single beds, shower/bathroom in a separate building). DAY 4: Discover Land of Dinosaur Bayanzag

Travel to Khavtsgait, mountain with ancient rock paintings depicted ibex, camel, hunter and animals dated back to Bronze Age. Hiking to the rock painting area offers mind-blowing view of endless steppe and lowland area. After the hike, head to Bayanzag to discover and learn about the incredible site known as Flaming Cliff. First excavated in 1922 the area is renowned worldwide for the dinosaur eggs and bones discovered in the classic desert of rock and red sand. Wander around the top of the cliffs along the ridge and around the base. Overnight in tourist Ger camp (2 people share Yurt with single beds, shower/bathroom in a separate building). DAY 5: Hike in Ongi Monastery Ruin

After breakfast, we will head to the Ongi temple and monastery ruins in the bank of only river flows to the Gobi called Ongi. The monastery was built in 17th century and was among the largest temples in Mongolia and was a home for over 1,000 monks. The Ongi was destroyed by the communist purges and restored by the residing monks. We will hike through the fascinating ruins and river Ongi. Overnight in tourist Ger camp (2 people share Yurt with single beds, shower/bathroom in a separate building). Accommodation: Tourist Ger camp | Meals: B, L, D | Distance: 170km-4 hours

DAY 6: Explore Orkhon Waterfall

Today we will drive to the Orkhon waterfall, a part of Unesco world heritage site. It is 24 meters high waterfall formed by volcanic activity where you can swim and hike. We will meet a yak herder family living near the waterfall area and discover their way of life. Stay overnight in the family’s guest Ger. Accommodation: Nomad family | Meals: B, L, D | Distance: 360km-7 hours

DAY 7: Horse Riding & Nomad Family Homestay

Today we ride horse for a half day to visit the waterfall and surrounding area. After the ride, we will see cooking traditional meal and spend time with the family. Another night in the family’s guest Ger (basic facilities and no shower). Accommodation: Nomad family | Meals: B, L, D

DAY 8: Visit Tuvkhun Monastery

We will visit Tuvkhun temple located on top of the mountain in Khangai range and hike 10 km to the temple. The monastery is placed in a unique natural rocky landscape where there is a small cave named “Mother’s abdomen”. According to the legend if one goes through the “Mother’s abdomen”, he / she gets free from sin. Overnight in tourist Ger camp (2 people share Yurt with single beds, shower/bathroom in a separate building). Accommodation: Tourist Ger camp | Meals: B, L, D | Distance: 50km-1 hour

DAY 9: Traverse Kharkhorin - Erdenezuu Monastery

After breakfast, drive to Karakorum, the site of the 13th century Mongolian capital. Visit Karakorum museum and learn about the Great Mongol state period, Stone Age, Bronze Age, Ancient states. Take a tour through the ancient city before moving on the beautiful ruins of Erdene Zuu Monastery. Surrounded by huge 400m x 400m walls built from the ruins of Karakorum, the Erdenezuu was the first and the biggest Buddhist monastery of the 16th century. Overnight in tourist Ger camp (2 people share Yurt with single beds, shower/bathroom in a separate building). Accommodation: Tourist Ger camp | Meals: B, L, D | Distance: 170km-3 hours

DAY 10: Khustai National Park - UB

Today, we will visit Khustain national park on our way to Ulaanbaatar. This national park is a home of 400 re-introduced wild horses to the wilderness and many animals including ibex, marmot, deer and gazelle. Take a small hike to observe the animals and discover the flora & fauna. After the visit, drive to Ulaanbaatar. Hotel is not included in the price. Meals: B, L | Distance: 390km-7 hours
