Naadam is a national sport festival celebrated nationwide every year in July. Attending the festival, you will not only see three manly sports of horse racing, archery and wrestling but also learn from Mongolian history, tradition, culture and clothing and traditional meals as well as cultural heritage. Our tour includes Naadam festival with highlights of magical Gobi Desert, combination of historical and natural sites in Kharakhorum and Orkhon valley and most fascinating national parks.

30 JUNE, DAY 1: Arrival in Ulaanbaatar and city tour

Travel Buddies guide and driver will pick you up from the international airport and take you to the hotel***. After refreshment, we will visit Gandan Monastery to learn about Tibetan Buddhism of Mongolia and national museum about Mongolian history. Continue the city tour to Zaisan memorial hill for a panoramic view of the city and watch traditional concert. Feast on Mongolian traditional meal for dinner. Stay overnight in hotel***. 01 JULY, DAY 2: Terelj National Park

This morning Travel Buddies guide and driver will pick you up from the hotel and drive to the eastern Mongolia where Chinggis khan statue complex; the largest Equestrian Statue. Visit the statue complex consisting of souvenir shops and museums. Get to the horse neck by elevator that offers panoramic view of the statue and surrounding area. Leaving the complex, we will take a scenic driving through alpine magnificent mountain and arrive in a nomad family. Enjoy a home cooked traditional meal for lunch. Time to saddle on Mongolian pony horse and have a breathtaking time riding through the thick forest of Siberian pine trees and over the mountain (horse riding for 1 hour and helmet is provided). Further discover the national park with a visit to iconic Turtle rock and Buddhist Meditation center in the mountainside. Explore the center with a stunning hike from crossing the short trail bridge to 108 stairs. 02 JULY, DAY 3: Baga Gazriin Chuluu

Head to middle Gobi where Baga Gazryn chuluu, unique collection of granite stone massif that stretches 15 kilometers long and 10 kilometers wide. Prior to reaching Baga gazryn chuluu, we will visit mountain Zorgol Khairkhan, home to rare animals and have lunch there. Continuing on to Baga Gazryn chuluu, pass by beautiful Lake Khairkhan that gives you an opportunity for bird watching and photographing. Today we have a homestay in a hospitable nomad family living in steppe zone and truly immerse with nomadic culture and savor traditional Mongolian meal for dinner. 03 JULY, DAY 4: Explore Tsagaan Suvarga

Journey through Tsagaan Suvarga, an area full of 30m high white limestone formations, and feast the eyes on the mind-blowing colors of the desert floor below. Visit the cliff and take photos. Overnight in tourist Ger camp (2 people share Yurt with single beds, shower/bathroom in a separate building). Accommodation: Tourist Ger camp | Meals: B, L, D | Distance: 240km-5 hours

04 JULY, DAY 5: Hiking in Ice Valley

After breakfast, we will head to Ice valley with cool gorgeous streams and glacier in the Gobi desert. Once we settled in our tourist camp, we will have lunch. Time to hike in the vulture valley following the stream that ends up at an ice-filled gorge. Good trekking shoes as well as walking sticks are recommended because further we go, narrower the valley becomes. Visit a small museum displaying a collection of dinosaur eggs, bones and exotic stuffed animals. 05 JULY, DAY 6: Discover Khongor sand dune

This morning, we will travel to Khongor sand dune; well known as Singing Dunes because of its pouring sand dune effect as plane when it is windy. The Khongor sand dune is one of the largest dune in Mongolia covering 965 square km areas and dunes reaching up to 250 meters. Visit oasis at the foot of the sand dune and climb. Ride a camel for an hour near the sand dune. Overnight in tourist Ger camp (2 people share Yurt with single beds, shower/bathroom in a separate building). 06 JULY, DAY 7: Discover Flaming cliff

Today we visit Flaming Cliff area which is renowned for its history of dinosaur findings and amazing landscapes. We will have lunch in tourist Ger camp near Flaming cliff. After refreshment, we will do hiking for excursion in Flaming cliffs which lies from the south to the north 8 km long and 5 km width. After the hike, we will enjoy our leisure time until seeing incredible sun setting over Flaming Cliff area that turns its colors into flaming cliff. 07 JULY, DAY 8: Hike in Ongi Monastery ruin

Travel to the heart of the desert today and marvel at the Ongi monastery. One of the largest Buddhist temples in south Gobi, Ongi was built in 17th century and became a home to over 1,000 monks. However, it was ruined during political repression. Today the ruin of Ongi Temple lies on the bank of the Ongi River; the only river to the Gobi Desert. We will walk through the ruins and visit a restored temple. Stay overnight in tourist Ger camp (2 people share Yurt with single beds, shower/bathroom in a separate building). 08 JULY, DAY 9: Visit Orkhon Valley - Unesco Heritage

Leaving the Middle Gobi, we will drive north to Orkhon valley; Unesco world heritage site. We will visit wonderful 24 meters high waterfall formed by volcanic activity where optional horse riding and hiking are offered. Visit a yak herder family living near the waterfall area and discover nomadic way of life by helping with their daily activities such as milking cows and rounding up herds. Mongolian home cooked meal will be offered for dinner. Stay overnight in private Ger next to them. Accommodation: Nomad family | Meals: B, L, D | Distance: 300km-7 hours

09 JULY, DAY 10: Former capital and First Buddhist Monastery

Time to travel to Karakorum; a former capital of 13th century Mongolian Empire. Today Kharkhorin is a agricultural town with many tourist attractions. Visit Kharakhorum museum presenting mind-blowing archeological finding dated back to Stone Age, Bronze Age and 13th century. Move on to the Erdenezuu; the first Buddhist Monastery built from the ruins of Kharakhorum in 16th century but ruined under political repression. The prayer’s and ceremonial temples are true architectural wonder preserving Mongolian Buddhist heritage. 10 JULY, DAY 11: Khustain National park – UB

Today we travel to wilderness amusement of Khustain National Park near Ulaanbaatar city. This is one of the few places in the world that you can see total about 400 wild horses adopting the re-introduced landscapes and wildlife. Drive further to the southern valley of Ungut Mountain and observe Ungut, a monument ensemble consisting of man stones from the 6-8th centuries AD. Leaving the park, we will drive to Ulaanbaatar and transfer to the hotel***. Accommodation: Hotel*** | Meals: B, L | Distance: 390km-7 hours

11 JULY, DAY 12: Enjoy Naadam Festival

This morning we visit Main Square where horseman with flag ceremony commences. Watch Naadam festival opening starting at 11:00 a.m. and wrestling & archery. After lunch we leave the city to see horse racing in Khui Doloon Hudag. You will be transferred to the hotel***. Accommodation: Hotel*** | Meals: B, L
